MIDI 2.0 · Universal MIDI Packet
UMP-Monitor normalises every message, whether it comes from a MIDI 1.0 port or a native UMP endpoint, to the Universal MIDI Packet and decodes it down to the last bit. Think MIDI-OX, rebuilt for MIDI 2.0.

Every UMP message type, decoded
Built for developers of MIDI 2.0 hardware and software, and for anyone who wants to know exactly what their controller is sending.
Timestamp, source, group, channel, type, message, decoded details and the raw UMP words, one row per message.
Each packet in hex with every spec field coloured by role. Hover a field for its spec name, purpose, bit position and value. Non-zero reserved bits are flagged in red.
16- and 32-bit values, Pitch 7.9 attributes, RPN names, function block info and more for the selected packet.
Filter by message family, channel and free text. Hide Timing Clock, Active Sensing and keep-alive NOOPs with one click.
A group × channel grid lights up as traffic flows, so you can see at a glance where messages are going.
Export the visible messages to CSV. No hardware at hand? Built-in MIDI 2.0 synth and MIDI 1.0 keyboard demo sources get you started.
This is how the RAW view splits a packet into the fields of the UMP and MIDI 2.0 spec. Pick a message and hover or tap a field.
UMP-Monitor picks the best MIDI API on each platform. Where only MIDI 1.0 is available, messages are converted to UMP on the fly.

The Windows MIDI Services backend has been verified with a native MIDI 2.0 controller (detection, function blocks and packet reception). The other backends compile but haven't been tested with real devices yet: reports are very welcome.
MIDIInputPortCreateWithProtocolA standard Windows installer. It installs for the current user without admin rights (or for all users, if you prefer), adds a Start menu shortcut and needs no .NET runtime. On Windows 11 the MIDI service that ships with the OS is all you need for native MIDI 2.0.
